DAVIDSON, N.C. – Wrestling fell in a Southern Conference dual to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday night at Belk Arena, 34-6.
With the loss Davidson falls to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in SoCon duals, while with the win SIUE improves to 5-11 and 3-2 in conference.
At 141-pounds, senior Dustin Runzo went to the wire against Angelo Silvestro, using a pair of third period escapes and takedowns to knot the score at 6, but the riding time went Silvestro's way to push him over Runzo, 7-6.
Junior Tony Palumbo went into the sudden victory frame knotted at 1-1, but a takedown from Karsten Van Nelsor ended it at 3-1.
Sophomore Conor Fenn went back and forth at 184-pounds, dropping a hard fought and high scoring 13-11 decision. Senior heavyweight Will Cooley went into the third up 1-0 with just an escape on the board. SIUE's Tommy Helton's made an escape and a last minute takedown from the Cougar gave him the win.
Davidson returns to the mats Thursday, Feb. 8 for a midweek SoCon tilt with The Citadel. First bout from Belk Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
