BOSTON –
The Davidson women's track and field team shipped up to Boston and took advantage of fast fields and a banked track, setting four new school records at the BU Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University Friday.

Senior Sarah Sears broke her own record in the mile and was the second collegian to cross the line. The Arlington, Va., native stopped the clock in 4:47.44, nearly six seconds faster than her previous best set at this event last year.

Junior Caroline Yarbrough ended the night for the 'Cats with a school record performance in the 5k, stopping the clock in 16:31.75 to finish fifth overall and the second collegian to cross the line. Yarbrough broke Sears record set at the indoor opener at BU on Dec. 2 by nearly 11 seconds.

Junior Tori Long snapped her second record of the season, taking down the 500-meter mark by winning her heat in 1:15.93. Just last weekend, Long reset her own indoor 400m record (59.06). Sophomore Maddie Hunter also won her heat of the 1,000-meter and stopped the clock in 2:54.65 for a new school best mark.

"We took advantage of great competition and as a result we significantly improved on some already strong school records," said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country and head women's track coach Jen Straub. "Good things happen when you trust your fitness and if we continue on this path we will have solid results moving forward!"

The Wildcats posted a pair of personal records in the 800-meters. Freshman Eleni Daughters improved from her time last weekend, stopping the clock in 2:13.89, while sophomore Claire Nieusma stopped the clock in 2:15.83. Sophomore Susannah Cate bested her 5k time, crossing the line in 18:07.28.

Senior Sierra Ponthier and junior Sophia Mills also had a strong showing the mile. Ponthier stopped the clock in 5:03.05, while Mills crossed the line in 5:03.22, each competing in a different section.

The Davidson 4x400-meter team of Daughters, Long, Nieusma and Grace Loehr placed ninth overall, stopping the clock in 3:59.51.

Davidson returns to the track Sunday, Jan. 28 at the JDL Dual Meet Madness at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
