DCFH Falls Friday to App. State; Hosts Longwood in Home Opener Sunday

BOONE, N.C. -- Davidson field hockey slipped to 0-3 on the season as the team fell 2-0 to Appalachian State (2-3) Friday at Adcock Field.
It was the first time this season the 'Cats have suffered a shutout. Senior Hannah Fisher led the offense with six total shots (two on-goal), while freshman Caitlyn Gund also tallied her first collegiate stat, firing two shots on-target.
Sophomore Sarah Zeszotarski registered her first career start in the cage, tallying eight saves.
The Mountaineers moved quickly, scoring with less than four minutes into the contest on a shot from the top of the arc.
Davidson had chances, earning five penalty corners in the second half to App's three, but were unable to capitalize. App added insurance late in the contest, scoring on a deflection in front of the cage.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday for the 2017 home debut, welcoming Longwood to Belk Turf Field.
