Dugger Earns National Weekly Honor

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson freshman Wesley Dugger was tabbed a STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week honorable mention, as announced by the organization Monday.
Dugger recorded the best debut for a Wildcat running back in program history, tallying 196 yards on 31 carries and a touchdown in Davidson's season opening win over Brevard, 30-7. The Henrico, Va., native ranks second in the NCAA-FCS in rushing yards behind Cardon Johnson of James Madison, with 265 yards. JMU won the 2016 NCAA FCS National Championship last season.
Davidson sophomore quarterback Stockton McGuire, the 2016 Pioneer Football League Freshman Offensive Player of the Year, earned this distinction twice last season, while classmate Keylan Brown was listed once.
Dugger and the Wildcats return to action Saturday, Sept. 9 when they travel to Western Carolina for a non-conference clash with the Catamounts. Kickoff from Cullowhee is slated for 6 p.m.
