DAVIDSON, N.C. – During the Homecoming festivities, Davidson wrestling welcomed back former 'Cats for an alumni dual Saturday at Belk Track.
With the Alvarez College Union and Richardson Stadium in the background, current members of the team and alumnus took to the mats. The afternoon kicked off with members of the 2017-18 'Cats organizing a voluntary and self-directed practice that lasted an hour, consisting of technique, drills and some live wrestling.
The main event featured eight alumni who dusted off their wrestling shoes and took to the mats once again for some friendly competition. With assistant coach Tim Stroud emceeing for the crowd outside the union and fellow assistant Colin Johnston serving as referee; Jim Avola, Kevin Cook, Anthony and Philip Elias, Scott Matthews, Scott Patrick and CT Talevi took to the mats for this unique experience.
"The outdoor workout and alumni dual was a great way to showcase a new brand of Davidson wrestling to our community," said head coach Andy Lausier. "It was a really fun environment, but it was also full of pride from our current student-athletes, alumni, friends, family and fans that come out to watch the Wildcats."
The team kicks off the 2017-18 season with the first practice Wednesday, Oct. 11.
