CONCORD, N.C. - On the eve of the 2017 football season, members of the Davidson staff and team toured an Air Force A-10 fighter jet that will do a flyover of Richardson Stadium Saturday evening prior to kickoff.
Head coach Paul Nichols, director of operations Nick Decker, student-assistant coach Zach Popovec and current team members Jon Sheperd-Smith and Bryce Simmons joined Air Force pilots Liuetenant Colonel Jeremiah Parvin '01 and Tyler Byrd for an up close and personal tour of a jet that will take flight over the Wildcats home opener Saturday against Brevard.
"It is always awesome to see the power of the Davidson Football Family at work. Many thanks to Jeremiah Parvin for serving Davidson and Tyler Byrd and our football program by bringing the jets to fly over our game, as well as allow our players to get a tour," said Nichols.
Parvin was a four-year letterwinner for the Davidson baseball team from 1998-01. For an inside look at the tour of the A-10 check out the gallery here.
"The Davidson football team appreciates Lt. Col. Jeremiah Parvin and pilot Tyler Byrd for hosting us and giving us the opportunity to see their planes up close," said said Popovec. "It was a great experience and we thank them both for their hospitality and their service."
The Wildcats kickoff the season Saturday, Sept. 2 at Richardson Stadium against Brevard for a non-conference clash with the Tornados. Game time is slated to start at 7 p.m. with the flyover following the national anthem.
