JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Despite outshooting East Tennessee State and putting 10 shots on goal, the Davidson women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net and fell 2-0 to the Bucceeners in their first road game of the season inside Summers-Taylor Stadium.
The Wildcats fell to 1-3 on the season, while the Buccaneers evened their record at 2-2.
Quick Hits About and From the Game:
•The matchup with ETSU was the 10th meeting all-time since 1997.
•The setback was just the second in the series for the 'Cats as they saw their all-time record fall to 8-2.
•Last year saw the Wildcats take a 4-3 victory at Alumni Stadium vs. ETSU.
•Davidson held an 18-16 advantage on shots, 11 of those shots came in the second half.
•Of those 18 shots, a game-high 10 of them went on goal.
•Both ETSU goals were scored by Eleonora Goldoni, which pushed her season total to four.
•Meagan Sours and Rachel Harbin were credited with assists on the goals.
•Sophomore Seeley Yoo took a team-high four shots for the Wildcats, followed by Cameron France with three.
•Kendall Thomas and Becca Ravitz each played 45 minutes in goal, with Thomas registering the lone save.
•Davidson earned seven corner kicks to ETSU's three.
•ECU had the advantage in shots (15-6), while the Wildcats earned one more corner (4-3).
•The Wildcats' have dropped their last nine road games now dating back to last year.
Notes From Coach Denton on the Road:
"We started the game very well, but found ourselves a goal down from an error. We were able to come back and create numerous opportunities, controlling most of the rest of the half. The second half was a little more open for both teams, as we pushed forward into an attacking mode, but that also left us open for the counter attack which is how they came away with a late goal. When we dominate parts of the game (shots, corners), we have to make it count. We will learn from this defeat and move on quickly and prepare for the next road trip against Coastal Carolina."
Davidson will stay on the road and travel to Conway, S.C., to face Coastal Carolina, Sept. 3.
