The Davidson wrestling program, with the help of the Davidson Athletic Fund, announced a $250,000 matching gift challenged Thursday.
An anonymous Davidson wrestling alumnus has generously initiated a $250,000 matching gift challenge to benefit the Wildcat wrestling program. This challenge is geared toward providing Davidson scholar athletes and coaches with the additional scholarship dollars needed to excel in the Southern Conference (SoCon). This scholarship will be named after longtime wrestling advocate, Professor Gill Holland, as a tribute to his loyalty to the program and friendship with countless Davidson wrestlers over the years.
The addition of Andy Lausier, Davidson's 12th head wrestling coach, has brought new excitement and energy to the program. Through Coach Lausier's vision and leadership, wrestling will capitalize on the advantages that are distinctly Davidson and leverage this edge to recruit the nation's top scholar athletes.
The matching gift initiative will have an immediate impact on the wrestling program, injecting $500,000 in additional scholarship funds—more than tripling the current scholarship equivalencies—into the program over the next four to five seasons. The challenge begins immediately and will run until June 30, 2018, the end of fiscal year 2018.
