DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson women's lacrosse head coach Kim Wayne announced today Lily Carpenter has joined the program as the new assistant coach for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.
Carpenter comes to Davidson after a two-year stint at Skidmore College, a Division III school in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where she was an assistant coach, coaching the goalies as well as the defense and attack positions.
"I'm thrilled that Lily has accepted the position to become our new assistant coach," said Wayne, who will be entering her 10th season. "Lily's enthusiasm to learn, combined with her love for the game are what stood out the most during the interview process. She is eager and ready to help bring Davidson lacrosse to the next level."
During her time at Skidmore, Carpenter helped the Thoroughbreds to their third straight Liberty League Championship appearance this past season. Skidmore finished the 2017 campaign with a 12-6 record and a 7-2 mark in league play. In her two seasons, she coached five All-Liberty League selections, including an honorable mention goalkeeper, in addition to three first-team players, Liberty League Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
"I'm so excited to get to started and am grateful for this opportunity," said Carpenter. "While I was on campus, Davidson instantly felt like home. I am looking forward to being apart of the Davidson Women's Lacrosse program and the overall Davidson community."
A native of Newburyport, Mass., Carpenter was a four-year goalkeeper on the women's lacrosse team at McDaniel College, making 61 career appearances. She earned 417 career saves, while collecting 78 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers in over 2,600 minutes played.
As a senior, Carpenter started all 18 games between the pipes and twice was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week. She finished the year leading the league with 198 saves, which ranked seventh in the nation.
Carpenter was an active member of McDaniel's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, representing the Centennial Conference at the 2015 NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C. She was also selected as McDaniel's student-athlete delegate for the Snell-Schillingford Symposium for women in coaching.
Carpenter graduated with a bachelor's degree in environmental studies with a minor in studio art from McDaniel in 2015.
Davidson is coming off an 8-10 season with a 5-4 record in Atlantic 10 play. It won the program's first A-10 tournament game by scoring a comeback 14-13 victory against George Mason to reach the semifinals for the first time.
