Poll
OMAHA, Neb. -- As the college baseball season finally comes to a close after Florida earned its first-ever national crown, Davidson baseball continues to make a name for itself after a historic 2017 campaign where the 'Cats claimed their first conference title and first NCAA postseason berth in the program's 115-year existence.
The Wildcats finish the season ranked No. 25 in the country by d1baseball.com, as released in the final poll Thursday morning. Davidson capped its season with a record-setting 35 wins, where they rose from the six seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship to sweep the Chapel Hill Regional after downing national No. 2 seed North Carolina, twice. The Tar Heels appear at No. 11 in the poll.
The 'Cats magical ride came to an end in College Station, Texas, where the Aggies of Texas A&M derailed the red-hot Wildcats, who had won 10 of their last 11 contests. Davidson and A&M played in the longest Game 1 in Super Regional history, battling for 15 innings before a bases-loaded single brought victory to the Aggies. A&M is ranked at No. 8.
The squad is the only team from the Atlantic 10 to appear in the final rankings.
Davidson has also appeared in the Collegiate Baseball national polls, holding strong at No. 16 since June 8.
