Men's Track & Field Wrap Up A-10 Championship Day One

AMHERST, Mass. – The Davidson men's track and field team opened day one of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship Saturday at the UMass Track & Field Complex on the campus of Massachusetts.
The Wildcats kicked off the day early with the 10,000-meter run. Out of the gates, sophomore Dylan Carmack ran into trouble, losing his shoe before making the first turn, but quickly getting it back on for the final 24 laps to place fifth overall with a time of 31:27.35. The result set a new personal record for the Chattanooga, Tenn., native by just over four seconds (31:33.36).
Freshman James Davis added to the 'Cats score with an eighth place finish in the pole vault, resetting his own program record in the process. The rookie cleared 4.55-meters (14'11) to score in his first outdoor championship. He currently holds five of the school's top-10 performances.
Sophomore Sean Caveney recorded a new PR in the 400-meter hurdles, taking the prelims in second overall with a time of 52.93 seconds. He returns to the finals of this and the 110-meter hurdles Sunday.
Davidson freshman William Wicks ran well in a pair of sprint events. Wicks placed just outside of the finals in the 200-meter dash, placing second in his and 10th overall with a time of 21.79 seconds. The time ties Jacob Hostetler's eighth fastest 200m performance all-time. He opened the day with an 11th overall result in the 100-meters (11.01 seconds).
The 'Cats return to the track tomorrow, Sunday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. for the final day of the A-10 Championship.
