DAVIDSON, N.C. – A total of 11 Davidson varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA, as announced Wednesday.
The NCAA recognized more than 1,200 Division I sports teams from across the country for their exceptional work in the classroom as part of the NCAA's Academic Performance Program.
This accolade, given by the NCAA, honors teams that have earned multiple APR scores in the Top 10 percent for the past four years. The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
The Wildcat programs to receive the Public Recognition Awards are: baseball, men's basketball, men's golf, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, women's track (2015 and later) and volleyball.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 984 to a perfect 1,000.
Men's basketball and women's soccer are two of 93 teams that have earned Public Recognition Awards every year of the 12-year-old program.
