LEXINGTON, Ky. – Davidson's Sean Caveney finished his stellar sophomore season for men's track and field Thursday evening at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex.
"Sean has had a fantastic season, his improvement has been remarkable and he showed up at the A-10 Championships … to earn a qualifying spot at the first round of NCAA's as a sophomore is impressive," said head coach Renny Waldron.
Caveney, competing in the 400-meter hurdles, placed fifth in his heat, stopping the clock in 53.50 seconds. The Andover, Mass., native qualified for the NCAA East Prelims by setting a new personal best time of 52.53 seconds to take second in the event at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship.
"The experience of the East Preliminary qualifying round in itself will make Sean a better athlete going forward and well prepared for the next two years. More importantly, Sean is a leader and is setting the tone for our athletes and showing them what is possible if you work hard, have a great attitude and have a level-headed approach to competition."
Davidson sends senior Will Brewster to the start line Saturday night in the 5,000-meter run. Gun is slated to go off at 8:45 p.m.
