DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Minutewomen had five players score multiple goals as Davidson was unable to slow down a streaking UMass team in falling 16-6 Friday night under the lights at Richardson Stadium in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse.
The Wildcats dropped to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in league play, while UMass (8-3, 3-0 A-10) won its seventh straight and NCAA-record 48 consecutive regular-season league game.
Senior Annie Brockett recorded her seventh multi-goal game of the season with a hat trick to pace the 'Cats' offense. The senior pushed her season total to 24 goals and gave her 29 points on the season, both team highs.
Sarah Kopp scored a couple of goals and Genna Portner added a single goal. The duo of Shayne Antolini and Christine Molinari each dished out two assists.
UMass' Hannah Murphy had a game-high four goals to go with 12 draw controls, while Ashley Faulhaber and Kiley Anderson scored three goals apiece. Hannah Burnett and Callie Santos scored twice each. Holly Turner had a game-high three assists.
Davidson's defense kept the Minutewomen's offense off-balance through the first 10 minutes, allowing just one goal and forcing them into five turnovers. Brockett tied things up at 1-all with 20:50 on the clock.
Murphy though would start a 6-0 run for UMass at the 19:59 mark and it went into the break up 7-2. Kopp got the 'Cats' second goal with 58 ticks remaining in the half.
The lead would grow to 10 at 12-2 before the Wildcats charged back with three straight scores starting at the 16:05 mark and ending at the 13:43 mark. UMass put the game away though in the final 11 minutes by outscoring Davidson 4-1, with Brockett scoring her final goal with 6:30 left in the game.
Between the pipes, Rose Woolson was credited with 10 saves and scooped up six of Davidson's 23 groundballs. Defenders Mackenzie Sivilli and Rachel Hianik forced two turnovers apiece.
UMass had a 33-17 advantage on shots and picked up 18 of the 24 total draw controls on the evening.
The Wildcats cap off a three-game homestand Sunday with a 12 p.m. A-10 game vs. St. Bonaventure.
