NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After a weekend where he set three new career-bests and led the Wildcats to their first league sweep since 2015, senior Will Robertson has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Will had a fantastic trip at the plate, going .500 on the week at 8-for-16, including two doubles and a home run, falling just one short of matching his season RBI total- in one weekend- bringing in seven runs. He also scored six times and only suffered two strikeouts, posting a stellar on-base percentage of .529 and a slugging of .812.
On Friday, Robertson tied his career-high with four hits, reaching base five times and scoring a career-best four runs. The Greenville, S.C., native launched his second long ball in as many games, a three-run jack to left field for his fourth home run of the year. He also delivered five RBI, another career-best, in the 'Cats 24-4 pummeling of the La Salle Explorers.
He picked up two hits each in Saturday and Sunday's contests, scoring a run each time. For the fourth time in his career and second time this season, Robertson had a two-double game Sunday, where he added two RBI. On Saturday, he scored the first run in the 'Cats eventual 6-4 10-inning victory, and his both of his two-baggers on Sunday brought in a run.
Robertson's average went up 27 points over the weekend, where he now sits tied for second-best on the squad at .317. He currently has a 24-game reached base streak, the second longest in Davidson history, and has a seven-game hitting streak. Earlier this season, Robertson registered a 16-game hitting streak, falling one shy of the best in school history. Robertson tops the 'Cats in conference play, posting a .346 clip with 18 hits, 13 runs, and 10 RBI.
Robertson is the second Wildcat to earn the honor this season, joining classmate Brian Fortier. The award is the first of Robertson's career, and the two are the first duo to take the award in the same season for Davidson since joining the league and the first set to take weekly league player of the week accolades in the same season since 2005 (Jay Heafner, Andrew Musashe).
Robertson has played every inning this season for the 'Cats, anchoring the right field position. He and the 'Cats return to action Tuesday, welcoming in-state foe Appalachian State for a 6:00 p.m. tilt.
