ROCK HILL, S.C. – Davidson freshman James Davis set the outdoor pole vault record, claiming first at the Winthrop ADIDAS Invitational Saturday at Irwin Belk Track.
Davis, who tied the indoor record this past season, cleared 4.50-meters (14'9"), breaking Bryce Jones record of 4.45-meters set in 2010.
Freshman George Williams was the first collegian to cross the line in the 400-meter run. Williams was the third overall finisher, but the first collegiate runner to stop the clock in 48.69 seconds.
The Wildcats placed two athletes in the top-eight of the 400-meter hurdles, junior Sean Caveney and freshman James Davis. Caveney took second overall (53.98 seconds), while Davis (58.43 seconds) took sixth in his heat, eighth overall.
Ramsay Ritchie was fourth overall in the 1500-meter run, 3:59.78, while senior Ben Corson won his heat and took eighth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.01.
Davidson returns to the track Friday in the opening day of the Vertklasse Meet hosted by High Point University.
