NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Senior Annie Brockett and junior Rose Woolson collected their first weekly awards of the 2017 women's lacrosse season as the duo were named the Atlantic 10 Player and Defender of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday for games played from Feb. 21-27.
Brockett earned her first career weekly honor, while Woolson earns her third career award after picking up the defender of the week twice last season.
A native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Brockett had a career week in leading Davidson to a 2-0 record in games at home against Siena and William & Mary. The senior captain had 10 goals and an assist for 11 points, while going 3-for-3 on free-position shots and adding a caused turnover. Her week included career highs of six goals and seven points in the win against Siena, as she sparked an 8-0 rally with the first goal of the run and added three during the spurt.
She then followed up with a four-goal outing against W&M, connecting twice on free-position attempts. Brockett tied the game up at 9-9 with a goal at the 2:24 mark in the second half before the 'Cats eventually scored the game-winner a minute later.
Brockett has a team-best 12 goals on the season, having scored multiple goals in all three of Davidson's games.
Woolson picked up two wins in goal, finishing the week with an 8.00 goals against average, 19 saves, eight groundballs and one caused turnover. The Baltimore, Md., native stopped 11 shots in a 14-7 win against Siena while hauling in a career-high tying six groundballs. The junior came up with eight saves in leading Davidson to a 10-9 win vs. William & Mary, adding two more groundballs.
Davidson hits the road for a 1 p.m. game at Jacksonville next Sunday, March 5.
