DAVIDSON, N.C. – Even with the rigorous schedules of being a student, athlete and/or coach, several members of Davidson Athletics gave their time to help with the recently held Special Olympics Basketball Skills Day, held at the War Memorial Gym in Mooresville, N.C.
12 Wildcats volunteered for the event, held in conjunction with the Mooresville Special Olympics Chapter, and sponsored by the Civitan Club of Mooresville-South Iredell.
Over 60 participants ran through different drills, games, and stations, and the Davidson crew helped run and teach the participants at each event.
Head Coaches Renny Waldron (Men's XC/TF) and Kim Wayne (LAX) were in attendance, joined by a handful of student-athletes. Lacrosse players Dana Stasieluk, Rose Woolson, and Mackenzie Sivilli represented with their coach, while runners Hannah Reiden, Walker Mogen, and Ramsay Ritchie aided Waldron.
Also volunteering were men's soccer players Matt Reinikka and Jon Creel, field hockey defender Morgan French, and football's defensive back Aaron Braswell.
Davidson Athletics has always been a proud supporter of the Special Olympics organization and always eager to help provide assistance and volunteers. Prior to the start of their seasons, both the men's and women's basketball teams held a Special Olympics Day on campus, and in the fall the baseball team also volunteered at an event held by the chapter.
