DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson men's track and field freshman James Davis was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, announced by the league Tuesday.
Davis took first in the pole vault at the JDL College Team Challenge, clearing 4.55 meters (14'11"). The Clarkesville, Ga., native opened at 4.25 meters and took just four attempts to clear the eventual winning height. Davis is the first Wildcat to receive A-10 weekly recognition this season.
"James has been a valuable addition to our team this year. He has a great attitude, is a hard worker and is well liked by all," said men's head track and field coach Renny Waldron. "He continues to improve and we believe his individual victory this past weekend is just a start for him."
Davis enters this weekend's A-10 Championship eighth on the performance list in the vault. The Wildcats take to George Mason Field House beginning Saturday, Feb. 18 and conclude the 2017 indoor championship Sunday, Feb.19 in Fairfax, Va.
