SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Davidson football landed three players on the Pioneer Football League All-Conference team including a pair of first teamers, announced by the league Tuesday.
Wildcat senior long snapper Conrad Mueller and freshman running back Wesley Dugger earned first team honors, while senior kicker Trevor Smith landed on the second team.
Mueller was a staple on special teams, not only during his final campaign, but over his entire four-year career. The Waxhaw, N.C., native played in all 45 games during his tenure.
Dugger posted the best debut for a rookie running back in program history, recording 196 yards and a touchdown in the season opener against Brevard and never slowed down. Dugger finished with the second best season all-time, rushing for 1,131 yards on 228 carries and found the end zone 8 times. His 102.2 rushing yards-per-game ranks fourth at Davidson.
Smith connected on 12-of-14 field goals and made 24 point after attempts to earn second team accolades. The Tampa, Fla., native reset the school record with 36 made field goals, while his 12 conversions in 2017 is the most in a season in Wildcat history.
Four 'Cats earned honorable mention honors. Sophomore linebacker George Hatalowich led the team in tackles with 73, 7.0 for loss and 36 solo. He also made an interception. Joining him on defense was classmate Bryce Perry-Martin. Perry-Martin continued to be a force in the trenches in his second year, making 56 tackles including 14.0 behind the line of scrimmage. He also forced and recovered a fumble and registered 5.0 sacks.
Sophomore William Wicks led the conference in all-purpose yards, accumulating 1,516 (137.8 YPG). Wicks led the team with 51 receptions and 704 receiving yards to go along with 5 touchdowns. Junior offensive lineman Nick Nolting was the final 'Cat named. Nolting moved in from tight end to left tackle and made an immediate impact in protection.
The three All-PFL members are the most since 2012 when the 'Cats boasted three first teamers.
