THE SERIES
The Wildcats trail Morehead State 6-12 all-time since the first meeting in 1999. The pair have squared off every year since '99 with the Eagles entering Saturday's tilt on a five-game win streak.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Austin Gahafer completed 17-of-33 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles downed the Wildcats in the 2016 season finale at Richardson Stadium, 31-10. Stockton McGuire led Davidson on the ground, rushing 21 times for 116 yards and a touchdown.
#TRENDINGNOW
Davidson freshman Wesley Dugger became the sixth running back in program history to amass 1,000 yards in a single season on the ground. The Henrico, Va., native broke free from the San Diego defense and clipped off a 68-yard gain to eclipse the century mark last Saturday at Richardson Stadium. He is the first 'Cat to break 1,000 since Johnson Leverett in 2004. Dugger's 1,020 yards ranks fifth all-time and is just 65 yards away from the second best season. Ray Sinclair's 1,339-yard campaign in 1980 still ranks above the rest and should be safe, for now.
LAST TIME OUT
A 68-yard scamper by freshman running back Wesley Dugger set up the 'Cats lone touchdown of the day, a four-yard scoring grab by William Wicks from Tyler Phelps as San Diego downed Davidson, 63-7. The Toreros jumped out to a 35-point lead and never looked back, racking up 706 total yards including a 24-for-28, 3 touchdown performance from Anthony Lawrence. Lawrence threw for 403 yards, while four different Toreros rushed for a TD. Davidson was led on defense by junior corner back Nathan Campbell's 11 tackles, 10 of them solo stops, and 1.0 for loss.

ANOTHER ONE
For the fourth consecutive year Davidson football earned an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee. Senior linebacker Ryan Samuel joins Matt Casey, Chris Woods and Nate Casey, in succession, as a Wildcat nominee for this prestigious distinction.
NEW ADDITIONS TO THE STAFF
Paul Nichols added four new coaches to the fold, two on each side of the ball. Hank Hughes (Springfield, '79) boasts an impressive resume having worked at the NCAA FBS level for 20 years. He most recently worked as defensive line coach for Nebraska in the Big 10 in 2015. With an extended stay at the University of Connecticut from 2001-13, Hughes helped lead the Huskies to five bowl games and the 2012 team to a ninth place rank in the country in total defense and seventh against the run. Jeff McDaniels (Davidson, '14) returns to his alma as cornerbacks coach. McDaniels comes back after spending two seasons with Texas State University working with offensive skill players and special teams.
On the offensive side, Laymarr Marshall (Duke, '98) will coach the running backs. Marshall spent the last 18 seasons at Mt. Tabor High School where he was head coach since 2008. While at Duke, Marshall earned Academic All-ACC honors in 1995 and was a three-year starter at running back. Tim Zetts (Akron, '09) will serve as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Zetts spent the last two seasons at John Carroll University where he was named interim head coach last season to go with his offensive coordinator duties.
