DAVIDSON, N.C. – San Diego junior quarterback Anthony Lawrence passed for 403 yards on 24-of-28 passing and three touchdowns as the visiting Toreros downed Davidson football at Richardson Stadium in Pioneer Football League action Saturday, 63-7.

With the loss Davidson falls to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in the PFL, while with the win San Diego clinches the PFL championship and improves to 8-2 and stays perfect in the league at 7-0. San Diego clinched the leagues automatic bid into the FCS Championship.

The Wildcats first drive of the third quarter provided the lone sparks of the day as freshman running back Wesley Dugger broke away for a 68-yard gain deep into Torero territory. The run pushed Dugger over 1,000 yards for the season, the first Wildcat to do so since John Leverett in 2004. Dugger sits at 1,020 yards, the fourth best season in Davidson history with a game to go.

The run helped set up a 4-yard William Wicks scoring grab from Tyler Phelps, his fifth touchdown reception of the season. Wicks made six catches for 70 yards, while freshman receiver Satchel Moore caught five Phelps passes for 77 yards. Phelps completed 16-of-26 passes for 190 yards with no interceptions.

Junior corner back Nathan Campbell was a force in the secondary, making a team-high 11 tackles, 10 solo stops, and 1.0 tackles for a loss of 3 yards, while breaking up a pair of passes. Classmate Preston Grase made 9 tackles with senior Steven Spears and sophomore George Hatalowich chipping in 7 stops apiece.

San Diego, the class of the PFL this season, totaled 706 total yards including 426 through the air and registered 29 first downs.

Prior to the game, the 19 members of the Class of 2018 were honored for their efforts and contributions to the program the last four years.

Davidson wraps up the 2017 slate Saturday Nov. 18 on the road at Morehead State. Kickoff from Jayne Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
