Full Charlotte Knights Release
UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tickets for Davidson baseball's May 10th matchup with Winthrop at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte will go on sale Saturday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m., as announced by the stadium staff Monday afternoon.
BB&T Ballpark, home of the Charlotte Knights (triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), will be the site for a handful of collegiate baseball games in 2017, including cross-county rival Charlotte facing two ACC foes.
"We're very excited to play at BB&T Ballpark and so pleased with how the Knights have embraced college baseball the way they have," stated head coach Dick Cooke, entering his 27th season at the helm. "We had a chance a few years ago to play a scrimmage game against the Knights, which was a great experience for our players and we were able to get a number of alumni out who really enjoyed it and thought it was a fantastic atmosphere. We're delighted to be given the opportunity to play there again, and we're looking for the same type of positive environment this season against a really good Winthrop ball club."
The 'Cats are familiar with the confines of BB&T Ballpark, having faced the Knights in a scrimmage in April of 2015. Now White Sox major-leaguer Carlos Rodon, then a member of the Knights, started the game for Davidson, and helped lead the team to a 3-0 victory.
The Wildcats and the Eagles will meet for the 43rd time in series history, most recently in a duel last April. Later that season, the 'Cats went on to make history as the first-ever No. 6 seed to advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship game, before falling to Rhode Island in late May. The game this season will be Davidson's last 'home game' of the 2017 campaign.
Tickets for all of the collegiate games will go on sale to the general public at 10:00 a.m. at BB&T Ballpark on Saturday, January 28th. Tickets will then go on sale online at CharlotteKnights.com and by phone at 704-274-8282 beginning at 12:00 p.m., on January 28th. Field box tickets are just $10 for fans, while students from each university will be offered a discounted field box ticket of just $8 by showing a school ID. Additional collegiate baseball games at BB&T Ballpark in 2017 will be announced at a later date.
