DAVIDSON, N.C. – Freshman Seeley Yoo registered her first career hat trick and three other first-year players earned points in leading the Davidson women's soccer team to a big 4-3 win Thursday night against East Tennessee State inside Alumni Stadium.
Davidson (3-2) won its second straight at home, and third game overall, while sending ETSU to an even 2-2 on the season.
Quick Hits About and From the Game:
• This was the ninth meeting between both schools, but just the first since the 2004 season.
• Davidson has now won eight of the nine meetings overall, with its only setback coming in 2003.
• Head coach Greg Ashton moved to within three wins from becoming the program's all-time winningest coach. He entered the day with 115 victories during his 12 years at Davidson.
• Joining their classmate Yoo with points in the win were Sabine Chandler (assist), Virginia Jesselson (assist) and Allison Gray.
• Yoo started the scoring in the 28th minute with her first collegiate goal off a cross from Chandler, who tallied her second assist of the season. Davidson had not yet had a shot up to the point of the game.
• ETSU knotted things up at 1-all with a score from Irina Brutsch at the 35:24 mark. Brutsch would finish the game with four points on a goal and two assists.
• Davidson answered right back with another Yoo goal at the 35:54 mark, as the freshman knocked in a rebound shot from Jesselson.
• With nine ticks left in the half, Allison Gray scored on her own rebound shot for her first career goal and a 3-1 Wildcat lead at the break.
• Up 3-2 after the Buccaneers scored on a set play just at the start of the second half (46:55), Yoo capped off her stellar night with the game-winner on a shot to the far post off a nice touch pass from Natalie Connell to make it 4-2.
• The final goal of the game was recorded by ETSU in the 72nd minute.
• The Buccaneers won the battle in shots, 22-13, but the Wildcats held a slight 6-5 edge on corner kicks.
• Junior keeper Becca Ravitz won her second consecutive game, stopping a personal-best eight shots.
