DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson College Department of Athletics announced Monday plans to install new video boards inside John M. Belk Arena for the 2016-17 season.
The addition of video boards will improve the game-day experience for fans with the display of player statistics, replays and more interactive fan contests. This cutting-edge technology draws fans into the excitement of the game and raises the level of energy in the arena.
Designed and manufactured by Daktronics, the state-of-the-art LED video displays will be 12.5-feet tall and 26-feet wide and will replace the existing scoreboards, which were installed almost 10 years ago.
"Thanks to the generosity of some very dear friends of our basketball program, Video Boards will be added to Belk Arena," said head coach Bob McKillop. "This is another big step forward for Davidson Basketball as it will create an even more exciting game atmosphere for our great fans."
The video boards will be dedicated on Nov. 12 when men's basketball tips off the 2016-17 season against Appalachian State.
Inspired by their work with Coach Bob McKillop and Jerry Kroll '70 on the creation of the scholarship honoring the late Davidson basketball great, Mike Maloy '70, Cheryle and Joel Williamson '67 have generously contributed to the men's basketball program over the years. The Williamsons, close friend of the program Lorinna Lowrance and four other Davidson families made the new video boards possible.
"Bob has been successful within the confines of the highest academic standards and program integrity," said Joel Williamson. "Our admiration for him led us to contribute to the naming of McKillop Court, and we have now contributed to this latest project. We hope our gifts assist in furthering the profile of Davidson Basketball and provide Bob with additional resources to compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference as an elite academic institution within Division I athletics. Go Wildcats!"
"The success of Coach McKillop's basketball program makes all Wildcat fans proud," said Lowrance. "It is a pleasure to be a part of the Davidson family and to help support the work and experiences of our outstanding players and coaches."
Daktronics is one of the world's largest suppliers of electronic scoreboards, computer-programmable displays, large-screen video displays and control systems.
In addition to the video boards, a parking lot to help improve game-day parking is being added to the northeast side of Baker Sports Complex. The Wildcat Den, the primary concessions stand, has also been renovated to provide fans with the most efficient service possible.
Season tickets are on sale online here or can be purchased from the Davidson Ticket Office in person, or by calling 1-800-768-CATS.
