DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the fifth year in a row, the Davidson women's lacrosse team placed at least two players on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll with four Wildcats earning a spot, as announced Friday by the IWLCA.
Rising seniors Morgan Burch, Kacey Merlini, Abigail Thielemann and Kendall Thielemann were each honored to give the program 17 players who have been named to the honor roll since 2010. Paige Logan '14 and Erin Keitel '14 are the only Wildcats to twice have been named to the honor roll.
The four 'Cats were part of numerous student-athletes from 96 different institutions with inclusion in the 2016 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
An Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree three times, Burch saw action in 17 games this past season, earning one start. She scored 10 goals, tying a personal best, with two assists for 12 points. In the classroom, the rising senior is majoring in chemistry.
Merlini and Abigail Thielemann were both forced to miss this year due to preseason injuries, but excelled in the classroom. Merlini is majoring in both environmental studies and political science, while Thielemann is majoring in political science as well.
The Thielemann sisters were both named to the 2015-16 Fall and Spring A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Kendall, who is majoring in political science, set personal bests during her junior season. She played in eight of the Wildcats' 17 games, earning one start. She picked up two goals and an assist for three points, while adding three groundballs, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
The Wildcats finished with an 8-9 overall record, while sporting a 5-4 A-10 mark. They reached the league's tournament for the first time where their season ended with a 10-7 setback to Saint Joseph's in the quarterfinals.
