DAVIDSON, N.C. — After a stellar senior season, right-handed pitcher Clark Beeker was named to the 2016 Atlantic American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region Second Team today by the members of the ABCA.
Beeker, who was recently drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 33rd round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft Saturday, June 11, becomes the eight Wildcat to earn a spot on either the first or second all-region team. A year ago, Lee Miller was named to the first team, while the last 'Cat to get a spot on the second team was Rob Wilson in 2007. It also marks the third straight season a Davidson player has been named to one of the two all-region teams.
A native of Lexington, N.C., Beeker finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and a 1.94 ERA, including a 1.73 in conference play. The 6-3 right-hander allowed just 23 earned runs in a conference-best 106.2 innings pitched, while ranking sixth in the nation with six complete games. Beeker also recorded 70 strikeouts and two complete-game shutouts. For his outstanding season, the senior was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team and All-Academic Team.
A recipient of the T. Henry Wilson Baseball Scholarship, Beeker was the 23rd Wildcat to be drafted and the 10th under head coach Dick Cooke, who just completed season at the helm.
Davidson, which advanced to its first conference championship in school history, concluded the 2016 season with a 28-26 record, marking the third consecutive 28-plus-win season for the Wildcats.
