Strong Showing for 'Cats at Charlotte 49ers Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the season opener, Sarah Sears and Caroline Yarbrough earned top-five finishes to pace the Davidson women's track and field at the Charlotte 49er Classic, Friday.
Sears opened the spring with a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter event. Sears, who was just 2.34 seconds behind first-place, ran a personal-best 4:37.87.
The Wildcats did not have to wait long for their next finisher, as Yarbrough crossed the line in 4:40.85 to take fourth overall. Allison Cheeseman earned a top-20 finish, clocking a time of 4:52.33 to take 19th.
Tori Long led the way for the Wildcats in the 400-meter dash. The rookie crossed in 58.37 to rank 18th overall. Long also competed in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 26.82.
Along with Long in the 400-meters, seniors Brigid Behrens (59.24) and Ashlyn Gruber (59.84) finished in 27th and 35th places, respectively. Anna Buser recorded a time of 18:53.09 in the lengthy 5,000-meter race.
The Wildcats will conclude the 49er Classic tomorrow. Running events are set to begin at 10 a.m.
