DAVIDSON, N.C. – Four Davidson wrestlers registered wins as the Wildcats fell to The Citadel, 28-16, at Belk Arena Sunday afternoon. Davidson falls to 4-12 overall and 0-4 in Southern Conference action, while The Citadel improve to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Prior the match, Davidson honored its two graduating seniors, Nathaniel Powers and Patrick Devlin for their incredible effort and commitment to the program over the past four years.
With the dual starting at 197 pounds, The Citadel raced out to a 9-0 lead with wins at 197 and 285 pounds, before Bertucci and Runzo put Davidson on the board with wins at 125 and 133, respectively.
Bertucci registered his second career fall over Charles Kearney. The rookie tallied a reversal and a takedown before pinning Kearney at the 5:34 mark.
Runzo evened the score with a sudden-victory decision over Caleb Smith. With the score knotted at three, Runzo registered a huge takedown in the first overtime to secure the bout, 5-3.
At 165 pounds, Adam Flatt claimed his third victory of the season with a major decision over Daniel Smith, 13-4. Flatt tallied a reversal and a four near fall in the first period, before earning two more takedowns and the riding time point.
Konner Pritchard won at 184 pounds, with a hard-fought 5-1 decision over Timothy Knipl. Pritchard registered a second period escape, before adding on four back door points to record his eighth win of the season.
Davidson will travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to take on Gardner-Webb, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
