DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's soccer team was honored for the 21st consecutive year for their outstanding academic success this past season as they were recently awarded as a team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
The Wildcats earned the Women's College Team Academic Award from the NSCAA for the 2014-15 season. The program has won the award every year since the inception of it in 1996. The Wildcats were one of 587 women's teams to post a team grade point average of 3.0 or above to earn the academic team honor.
Davidson as team under the guidance of 12th-year head coach Greg Ashton finished with a team GPA of 3.26.
"I have tremendous admiration for what the women are able to accomplish from an academic perspective," said Ashton. "Being a division one athlete at a highly selective academic institution is extremely hard. The girls have demonstrated once again that their dedication to their studies is the priority, but at the same time they are working as hard as possible to strive for success on the field. I am extremely proud of their continued success in the classroom."
A total of 905 soccer teams (319 men, 587 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award. Of those teams, 230 schools had both their men's and women's program's recognized.
Davidson will be entering its third year in the Atlantic 10 this Fall and will welcome 10 incoming freshmen to a group of 21 returning letterwinners for the 2016 season.
