Hall of Famer George Weicker Passes Away

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson College lost one of its all-time greats Sunday, as Hall of Famer George Weicker '75, passed away in Nashville, Tenn.

Inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, Weicker was a standout for the Wildcats in both football and baseball.

In 1975, Weicker was named Southern Conference Player of the Year and an All-American, hitting .448 and leading the nation in slugging percentage (.810).

After a minor league baseball career, he served as the hitting coach at Vanderbilt University, before accepting a coaching / teaching position at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville.

Weicker won state championships at FRA in both baseball (1988 & 2000) and football (1991).

He taught math and coached at Franklin Road for 35 years.

Weicker was recently inducted into the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

In addition to more than 600 wins as the school's baseball coach, Weicker led FRA to a 150-80 record in football.
