
Rollo, Brewster Lead Davidson to Fifth Place at A-10s

KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Patrick Rollo clinched his second consecutive 800-meter title, highlighting an excellent showing at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships at Mackal Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats finished the championship event in fifth place with 57 team points.
Along with individual titles from Rollo and Will Brewster (5,000), Davidson enjoyed a total of eight top-five finishes across the two-day event. Rollo and Brewster earned A-10 all-conference honors for their performances.
In search of his second consecutive 800-meter indoor conference title, Patrick Rollo did not disappoint. The senior, who holds the program mark in the event, raced his way to the top of the podium with a time of 1:56.31. Rollo's time was a mere 0.5 seconds faster than second place finisher Steven Thompson from Saint Joseph's.
Already with the title in the 5,000-meter the night before, Brewster tacked on a third-place finish in the 3,000. The junior clocked an 8:26.55. Earlier in the year, Brewster set the Davidson record with a time of 8:12.98.
Also competing for the Wildcats was Walker Mogen, who covered the distance in 8:34.94 to finish ninth overall.
Rollo anchored the 4x800 relay, pacing the Wildcats to a new school record. The foursome of Ramsay Ritchie, Dylan Carmack, Ben Corson and Rollo clocked a 7:52.28 to best the previous mark of 7:56.69.
Sean Caveney set a new personal best in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. The freshman clocked an 8.44 en route to a fourth-place finish. In the preliminaries, Caveney qualified for the finals with a time of 8.47.
Jacob Hostetler raced to a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter finals. The sophomore stopped the clock in 49.98, an indoor career best.
In the shot put, newcomer Brady Logan earned a fifth-place finish. Logan registered a toss of 14.62 meters.
Daniel Samet, a senior co-captain, closed out his indoor career with a top-10 finish in the one-mile. Samet was the top Wildcat finisher, ahead of Ian Robertson, as he dropped a time of 4:21.36 to take ninth. Robertson wasn't far behind covering the distance in 4:21.97 to rank 10th.
In the last event of the meet, Davidson's 4x400 relay team of Charles Rappe, Caveney, Amir Pappu and Hostetler claimed seventh place, clocking in at 3:27.03.
Jordan Marshall finished the heptathlon in eighth place. After two days of competition, Marshall scored 4230 total points. On Saturday, Marshall finished ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.52), fifth in the long jump (6.39m), sixth in the shot put (10.91m) and sixth in the high jump (5-8.5). On the final day of competition, Marshall finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.95), ninth in the pole vault (9-10) and sixth in the 1,000-meter (3:04.60).
"We had a fantastic meet with many personal bests," said Associate Head Coach Renny Waldron. "Our guys really stepped up and gave it their all. We always aim to have our best performance come championship time, and to see that come to fruition is a very rewarding experience for our team."
"The men had a very strong showing as they continue to diversify the points in several events," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field, Jen Straub. "I look forward to watching the entire program grow, so that we can be a strong presence in the A-10."
For the team's six seniors – Aaron Forburger, Xzavier Killings, Ryan Phillips, Charles Rappe, Rollo and Samet – today marked the end of their Davidson indoor track careers.
Rhode Island (188.66) won the conference championship, while George Mason (184.83) and Massachusett (90.83) finished second and third, respectively. Saint Joseph's claimed fourth-place with 69 total points.
