DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson track and field team will compete at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championship, held Feb. 20-21 at Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of Rhode Island. Competition begins Saturday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. and continues Sunday, Feb. 21.
2015 Atlantic 10 Championships
Davidson made its inaugural appearance at the A-10 Championships a year ago, after joining the conference in July 2014.
The men's squad finished fifth overall with 44 total points. Patrick Rollo claimed Davidson's sole individual conference crown of the weekend, racing to the top of the podium in the 800 with a time of 1:53.59. In a competitive distance medley relay, Davidson earned a fourth place finish and set a new program mark. In the Heptathlon, Jordan Marshall, a newcomer to the event, placed eighth after two days of competition in which he set several personal bests and scored 4,301 points, a new program record.
On the men's side, Rhode Island will look to capture its third straight title and fifth in the last six years.
Going The Distance
The Wildcats excel at distance and middle distance races, strutting their depth between the lanes.
Junior Will Brewster ranks second in the conference behind George Mason's Steven Flynn (8:11.96) in the 3,000. Brewster stopped the clock at 8:12.98 at the Terrier Invitational Jan. 29. Ryan Phillips (8:27.07) and Walker Mogen (8:27.69) rank 13th and 14th, respectively in the event.
Senior Daniel Samet is fifth in the conference in the 5,000. Samet clocked a 14:42.30 at the Terrier Invitational Jan. 29. At the 2015 championship, the senior finished seventh with a time of 14:52.69.
In the middle distance events, Patrick Rollo is ranked among the conference's best in three events. Rollo, the reigning champion in the 800, is ranked 18th in the half mile after turning in a season fast 1:54.69 at the ETSU Invitational Jan. 15. In the 1,000, Rollo clocked a 2:29.48 at Boston University Jan. 29 to rank seventh in the league. In the 500, Rollo posted a time of 1:05.39, which is good for 18th.
