Davidson Sweeps Wingate 7-0, Wins Second in a Row

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team made it two wins in a row when they swept the Wingate Bulldogs 7-0 at home Saturday afternoon in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

Davidson ran its record to 2-3 on the year and remained perfect in its six matches all-time against the nationally-ranked Division II Bulldogs (2-2). Wingate entered the day ranked 45th in the DII ITA poll.

Winning at doubles to start the match was David Hager and Jack Riazzi at No.2 (6-2) and Artem Khrapko and Jordan Hart at No. 3 (6-1). The pair of Hager and Riazzi is off to a 2-0 start in doubles this year.

The four of them along with Shamael Chaudhry and J.B. Gough finished off the sweep with wins in singles play. Chaudhry and Gough each won their second straight, and third overall on the season, with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-4 wins, respectively, at No. 1 and 3 positions.

Hager picked up his team-leading fourth singles wins by scoring a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 4. Riazzi went to a super tie-breaker to finish off his match after splitting the first two sets by the scores of 6-3. He sealed up his second win of the season with a 10-8 tie-breaker win.

Playing at No. 2, Khrapko moved to 2-3 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory, while Hart also netted his second win with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 5.

Davidson moved to 16-14 overall combined in singles action and 7-6 in doubles play.
