Wildcats To Face Five NCAA Tournament Teams in 2017 Slate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson baseball revealed its 2017 schedule Wednesday, which includes two teams that spent most of last season in the Top 25, five teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament, and four teams that finished the season in the Top 50 in RPI.
Davidson is coming off a successful 2016, making history as the first No. 6 seed to ever play in the A-10 Championship game. They will play eight league series, including the first three at home. Overall, the 'Cats will play 18 of their first 20 games at newly-renovated Wilson Field.
The Wildcats begin the season with a familiar foe, welcoming Big East member Georgetown for the tenth time in the last 12 years. A Tuesday, March 14 matchup with Notre Dame highlights the homestand before beginning A-10 action hosting St. Bonaventure's (March 17-19). Davidson will also host Rhode Island (2016 NCAA Tournament participant, March 24-26), Saint Joseph's (March 31-April 2) and Saint Louis (May 5-7).
The 'Cats will journey to Winston-Salem, N.C., for their first road game of the year, taking on 2016 NCAA Tournament participant Wake Forest in the first of a two-game series. The Demon Deacons return the favor, traveling to Wilson Field for an April 26 rematch.
Davidson also faces Duke (March 28), South Carolina (April 18), and North Carolina (May 9) on the road to round out the field of NCAA Participants, and will also play home-and-home series with High Point, Winthrop, and North Carolina A&T.
The 'Cats will be one of half a dozen local teams to play Uptown at BB&T Ballpark, home of the Charlotte Knights (Class AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), facing Winthrop on May 10 in their final 'home' game of the 2017 campaign.
Davidson concludes the year on the road, facing UMass in Amherst, Mass., on May 18-19 before the A-10 Tournament begins on May 24 in St. Louis, Mo.
