NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson men's cross country senior Walker Mogen was selected to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference, announced by the league Tuesday.
Mogen, a senior history major, led the 'Cats down the stretch, placing third overall at the A-10 Championships with a new personal best time of 24:42.8. For his efforts, Mogen earned his first A-10 All-Conference team distinction in cross country – he was the 2015 A-10 outdoor 5,000 meter champ.
"Walker has made an incredibly meaningful impact on our team athletically, academically and socially. He is a coach's dream; very coachable, an outstanding student, and an excellent team captain, and a great athlete to boot," said head coach Renny Waldron.
The Radford, Va., native placed 26 spots higher than his junior year at the 2016 NCAA Southeast Regional Championship Meet, entering the finishing chute in 53rd overall to cap his collegiate cross country career.
"Walker embodies everything we could possibly ask for in a student-athlete. We are incredibly proud of him and all that he has accomplished here at Davidson. Thankfully, we still have him for indoor and outdoor track, but he is going to be missed dearly when he graduates."
Members of the academic all-conference team are voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the league. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be a major contributor to their program.
