Davidson Swept by Dayton Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson volleyball (8-13, 3-4 A-10) suffered its second straight sweep Sunday, falling 3-0 to (RV) Dayton in Baker Sports Complex by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-23.
Junior Sarah Fink led the 'Cats with six kills, while senior Emily Franklin collected five and eight total blocks, including three solos.
The Flyers, who have only dropped four sets in A-10 play, improve to 20-1 and a perfect 7-0 in conference play, and were led by sophomore Kendyll Brown's 10 kills.
The Wildcats remained within three points of Dayton in the opening stanza until the Flyers picked up six of the next seven points to take a 15-9 lead. Late in the set, with sophomore Katharine Franz at the service line, Davidson used a 4-0 rally to stay within striking distance at 18-17 before Dayton went on to dominate the remainder of the set and take it 25-18.
The Flyers attacked early and often in the second frame, holding a ten-point lead before Davidson began to chip away at the lead. The 'Cats collected four unanswered points late in the frame courtesy of three Dayton miscues and a Fink kill, but were unable to overcome the heavy lead of Dayton, which secured the second set at 25-17.
The Wildcats responded from the intermission fiercely, staying right in line with the Flyers all frame. The set saw 16 ties and six lead changes before Dayton recorded its 12th sweep of the year.
The Wildcats head back out on the road next, traveling to George Mason and George Washington Oct. 21-22.
