DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson volleyball (7-11, 3-2 A-10) will look to keep its two-match win streak alive, welcoming cross county rival Charlotte (6-13, 0-5 C-USA) for a 7:00 p.m. Tuesday tilt in Baker Sports Complex.
Davidson and Charlotte last faced off in their 2015 debuts, when the 49ers swept the Wildcats and hold an 18-10 all-time series advantage. Both head coaches, Chris Willis and Karen Weatherington, will be leading their teams barefoot as a way to help raise awareness for the Samaritan's Feet organization. Fans may also bring new or gently used shoes and/or socks to donate to the cause.
Fans can watch both games via the live streaming links provided, can follow live stats and the @DavidsonVB Twitter account for in-game updates.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Cats swept the weekend, pulling out five-set thrillers over league opponents George Washington and George Mason. Sunday's affair featured four sets decided by two points, including two that required extras. The fourth set went to 34 before Davidson snatched the victory. The Wildcats had three members record double-digit kills in both Friday and Sunday's contests in senior Emily Franklin, junior Kelly Friers, and sophomore Sabrina Shepherd. Franklin and Shepherd each registered career-highs on Sunday (17, 15).
FRANKLIN FOR THE WIN
Senior captain Emily Franklin was named Atlantic 10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday, after recording a team-high 31 kills and 18 blocks in the 'Cats two victories last weekend against GW and Mason. The honor is Franklin's second of her career, after also claiming the award in 2014. Franklin's nine blocks in each of the two matches were match-highs, and helped boost her national ranking to seventh in total blocks (104) and 21st in blocks per set (1.41).
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte comes into Baker on an eight-game losing skid, dropping its last 16 straight sets. Junior transfer Janelle Sparks tops the team with 182 kills, but is trailed closely by freshman Molly Shaw (176). Fellow rookie Sofie Perrens handles most of the setting duties with 404 assists, and junior Anna Henderson leads the front line effort with 93 blocks. The Niners boast five players with triple-digit digs, the most coming from senior libero Shelby Green (300).
UP NEXT
Davidson continues its homestand, welcoming Saint Louis and A-10 Preseason favorite Dayton to Baker for Friday and Sunday matchups.
