JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former Davidson stand out and All-American Erin Osment '15 ran an incredible race at the Jacksonville Bank Half Marathon Sunday morning, qualifying for the 2016 Olympic trials.
Osment ran a personal best of 1:14.18 half time, meeting the qualifications by 42 seconds after 13.1 miles. The Olympic Marathon Trials will be held on Feb. 13 in Los Angeles.
"I am really excited about the PR and the Olympic Trials cut after a decent fall of training," said Osment. "It was an incredibly well set up race today, and I felt strong. I'm so happy to have Coach Straub continuing to guide me and could not be more excited to debut in the marathon at the Olympic trials."
The Atlanta, Ga., native capped her four-year career with a stellar senior campaign. She captured two Atlantic 10 titles before becoming just the third female track athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championship. On track and field's biggest stage, Osment placed 14th in the 10,000-meter with a time of 32:14.25 to set a new program mark.
"Transitioning from college running to professional running is met with challenges," said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Jen Straub. "Erin worked through the process and continues to grow in the sport. For her to qualify for the Olympic trials in the marathon after her outstanding track career speaks volumes about her drive. Her motivation and talent will continue to propel her to great heights in our sport. I am very proud of Erin and look forward to seeing her compete this spring."
Osment joins current Wildcat swimmers Katy Williams and Luke Burton to qualify for 2016 Olympic Trials.
