DAVIDSON, N.C. — Head coach Greg Ashton announced the Spring slate of games for the Davidson women's soccer team and it features four home games at Alumni Stadium.
The Wildcats, coming off their second year in the Atlantic 10, will play five games total with an Alumnae contest to close out the Spring season.
"The players and coaches look forward to the spring as a time to work on the development of individuals, positional groups and the overall team," said Ashton, who finished up his 12th year at Davidson. "We have a fairly young squad of players this spring who have worked hard in the weight room and are now excited to get back out onto the training field. They will be working hard on areas of their game that needs to be fine tuned and also have the chance to continue their development with games that will give them different challenges. I'm excited myself to see this group come together over the course of the spring as we grow as a team in preparation for the Fall season."
Davidson starts its Spring slate with three straight home contests, first hosting Western Carolina, March 12 at 2 p.m. The two teams have played each other 16 times dating back 1999, with the Wildcats owning a 10-5-1 record. The 'Cats won the last meeting, 2-1, in overtime during their final season in the Southern Conference.
Seven days later, March 19, Davidson will host another SoCon opponent in UNCG at 2 p.m., followed by a visit from the Winthrop Eagles, March 23. That game is set for 7:30 p.m. The 'Cats and Eagles opened up the 2014 season against each other. Davidson captured a 2-0 shutout win to run its record to 4-1-1 in the all-time series.
The next Spring game features a trip to Radford, Va., to face the Radford Highlanders of the Big South, April 3 at 2 p.m. The Wildcats then return home for their final game against cross-county rival Charlotte, April 8, at 6 p.m. Davidson is 2-1-1 in the last four meetings during the Fall against its rival. The two teams last met in 2014 at Charlotte.
The 'Cats will welcome back their former greats with an Alumnae game at the 1992 Team Field, April 16, at 11 a.m. to wrap up the Spring season.
