JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – In the first meet of the 2016 year, the Davidson women's track and field team posted a strong outing at the 2016 Eastern Tennessee State University Invitational.
The Wildcats earned 10 top-20 finishes across the two-day event.
Hannah Rieden highlighted the finishes with a strong showing in the 800 meter event. Rieden posted a time of 2:19.30 to take fifth-place overall. Davidson didn't have to wait long for its next finisher as Ashlyn Gruber ran 2:27 flat to take 19th place.
Led by freshman Abby Fry, Davidson showcased its depth in the 5,000 meter event. Fry claimed seventh place after crossing the line in 18:25.07.
Caroline Turner was the next Wildcat to corss the line, earning a 12th place finish with a time of 18:55.12. Anna Buser took 15th overall after registering a time of 19:26.98, while Helen Webster ranked 23rd overall with a time of 20:01.50.
Tori Long earned a 19th place finish in the 400 meter with a time of 60.48.
On the second day of the event, the Wildcats demonstrated their strength in the 3,000 meter event as three Wildcats earned top-10 finishes. Sarah Sears led the way, claiming victory with a time of 10:24.23. Allison Cheeseman (10:31.12) and Hannah Moerk (11:14.52) took fourth place and seventh place, respectively.
Rachel McKay earned a 14th-place finish in the one-mile event. McKay crossed in 5:40.21
Davidson returns to action UNCG Spartan Team Challenge Jan. 24.
