DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Wildcats will host Catawba for their home opener at Richardson Stadium Saturday at 7 p.m. in this season's Black Out game.
THE GAME
The Wildcats will host Catawba for their home opener at Richardson Stadium Saturday at 7 p.m. in this season's Black Out game.
Fans are encouraged to wear black t-shirts in support of the Wildcats. The team is wearing all black uniforms this Saturday. The first 200 students will receive special all black Davidson t-shirts, the first 1,000 fans will receive black pom-poms and special Davidson stickers and eye black will be given out at the Wildcat Pregame Tailgate sponsored by Coca-Cola.
Davidson is 35-40-2 (.455) in home openers.
Saturday's game will mark the 23rd meeting between the two teams and Davidson leads the all-time series 16-6 that dates back to 1910. Catawba has won the last four meetings against the Wildcats.
This week's honorary captain is 1989 graduate Bryan Overcash. Overcash was a four-year letterman and was considered the best player in the secondary his senior season.

Davidson dropped its season opener at The Citadel, 69-0, this past Saturday. In addition to 602 yards on the ground and eight rushing touchdowns, the Bulldogs held the Wildcats to just 104 total yards. Running back Evan McField recorded a game-high 132 yards off 20 attempts with one touchdown, while Isiaha Smith ran for 109 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead both teams. Defensively, linebacker Zack Popovec led both teams with a career-high nine tackles for the Wildcats, while defensive lineman Chris Woods and defensive back Ben Rowell each tallied a personal-best eight tackles.
HONORARY CAPTAIN – BRYAN OVERCASH '89
Bryan Overcash has been selected as Davidson's honorary captain for Catawba. A 1989 Davidson graduate, Overcash was a four-year letterman and was considered the best player in the secondary on the 1988 squad. He was switched to defense for his final two seasons with the 'Cats after two outstanding years as an offensive back and return man.
