DAVIDSON, N.C. – Former Davidson baseball standout Gus Quattlebaum was recently promoted in the front office of the Boston Red Sox, the organization released earlier this month.
The Red Sox promoted Quattlebaum, the director of international recruiting, to director of professional scouting. The native of Andover, Mass., will take over for former director of pro scouting Jared Porter, who recently left the team for a promotion with the Chicago Cubs.
"We like Gus and what he brings to the organization -- a lot of energy, a lot of knowledge -- and so he was an obvious person to put into place," Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said. "I'm very impressed with him. He'll take charge of that. He'll help us coordinate our professional scouting and be involved with the coordination and reading of reports and talking to professional scouts, along with me."
Quattlebaum is a 1997 graduate of Davidson College and was a two-time All-Southern Conference selection. The outfielder ranks in several categories all-time at Davidson, including second all-time in home runs (35) and walks (121).
Quattlebaum, who joined the Red Sox organization in 2006, began his baseball career as a player development intern for the Montreal Expos in 1998, then served as a scout for the New York Yankees from 1999-2003 and Baltimore Orioles from 2004-06.
