DAVIDSON, N.C. — Head coach Kim Wayne has added Amber Zimmerlink as the new assistant coach for the Davidson women's lacrosse program.
Zimmerlink takes over for former assistant Taylor Frink, who was with the program for the past three years. She returned to Albany this fall to coach where she was a four-year starter.
"I have been fortunate to have amazing assistants by my side over the past four years," said Wayne, who is entering her eighth season and is the program's all-time winningest coach. "Nikki Lieb Schwob and Taylor Frink had crucial roles in developing the defense and attack while assisting in bringing in talented A-10 caliber recruits. I truly believe Amber will continue in their footsteps as she brings a sense of maturity, determination and knowledge to our already strong defense. Coming from St. Anselm she knows what it takes to recruit and coach academic players. I couldn't be more excited to welcome Amber to the Wildcat family."
This past year, Zimmerlink was the head coach for the Division II women's lacrosse program at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. She guided the Hawks to their third straight Northeast-10 Championship berth. They reached the quarterfinal round before having their season end there to finish at an even 8-8, while finishing ranked 20th in the country. Zimmerlink coached four NE-10 all-conference team members last year, with three of the players earning spots on the second team. The fourth player earned a spot on the all-rookie team.
In addition, she was the head coach of the NH Tomahawks Girls Elite Club Team in Bedford, N.H., where she organized and planned all the practices and game plans, while coaching, training and developing the athletes.
"I'm both excited and grateful to have the opportunity to become part of such a strong tradition both academically and athletically at Davidson College," said Zimmerlink. "I look forward to working with Kim to continue the excellence she has set here."
Prior to her one-year stay at Saint Anselm, Zimmerlink did a two-year stint as an assistant coach and the defensive coordinator for Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. During her two seasons with the Lions, they went 30-6 and made the NCAA Tournament in their first year eligible in 2014. Lindenwood, which climbed as high as No. 5 in the national rankings during just its third season as an NCAA program, finished 14-3 during the regular season, won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a perfect 5-0 mark and then captured its NCAA first-round game against second-ranked Limestone College, before falling in the national semifinals to No. 5 Lock Haven, 10-9.
During that season, Zimmerlink's defense ranked 10th in the country, allowing just 7.74 goals per game.
In addition to running the defense at Lindenwood, Zimmerlink was responsible for identifying and evaluating talent as one of the Lions' top recruiters.
During her time at Lindenwood, Zimmerlink also was at the helm of the Brave Lacrosse Elite Club Team from St. Louis, Mo.
Zimmerlink graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Iona College in 2012, where she was a four-year starter on defense, two-time first-team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference pick and team captain for the Gaels. She went on to earn her master's degree in education at Lindenwood, graduating in 2014.
