DAVIDSON, N.C. – The results have been tallied and the fans have spoken, voting Scott Patrick's historic run at the 2015 NCAA Championships as their favorite moment of 2014-15.
More than 16,000 votes were casted in the bracket-style challenge to select the fan's favorite moment from the past year. Patrick narrowly edged out the Speedo Guys from the Dayton game, who were deemed this year's biggest fans.
Also reaching the semifinals of the challenge were the men's basketball team, which earned the program's first-ever at large bid to the NCAA, and Ty Middlebrooks game-winning catch at UNC.
In mid-march, Patrick stepped off the mat in St. Louis, Missouri for the final time as arguably the most successful and decorated wrestler in school history.
It had been almost 50 years since a Wildcat wrestler recorded a victory at the National Tournament. Scott Patrick did it twice in consecutive days to become the first in the program's 95 years to win multiple matches at the NCAA Championship.
A two-time Southern Conference champion at 184 pounds, Patrick began his run at history with an upset of 11th seeded Brett Pfarr from Minnesota.
After being edged by Ohio State's Kenny Courts in the second round, the senior advanced to the next round of the wrestlebacks with an impressive 8-3 decision over Iowa State's Lelund Weatherspoon.
Though his historic run ended just short of becoming the program's first All-American, Patrick will always be remembered as Davidson's first two-time winner on collegiate wrestling's biggest stage.
