Six Join Davidson Women’s Lacrosse for Class of 2019

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson women's lacrosse head coach Kim Wayne announced today the addition of six recruits to the class of 2019 who will join the program this fall. The class is comprised of five midfielders and a defender, while hailing from five different states.
"I expect this class to make an immediate impact, but what excites me the most is the depth we will have in the midfield," said Wayne, who enters her eighth season at the helm of the program and became the program's all-time winningest coach in 2014. "Five out of six incoming freshmen are middies."
The Wildcats will welcome to the Class of 2019: Stevie Jefferis (Delaware, Ohio), Sarah Kopp (Victor, N.Y.), Sophia Sgroi (Winchester, Mass.), Lindsay Rufolo (Signal Mountain, Tenn.), Charley Orner (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), Annie Beresheim (Manhasset, N.Y.).

Stevie Jefferis
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Delaware, Ohio
High School: Olentangy
Coach Wayne: "She is quick, feisty and works extremely hard in transition and re-defending. She has the potential to be a great dodger."
Athletic & Academic Honors: Four-year Scholar Athlete … lettered all four years in both field hockey and lacrosse … Academic All-American as a junior and senior in field hockey and lacrosse … named first-team all-conference in both sports during junior and senior seasons … earned lacrosse team's Brave Award as a junior … Honorable Mention All-State in field hockey as senior … named team's Offensive MVP in field hockey in final season.
Sarah Kopp
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Victor, N.Y.
High School: Victor Senior
Coach Wayne: "Sarah is one of the most fluid midfielders in the class. She has a great stick and is very patient and smart with the ball."
Athletic & Academic Honors: 2015 lacrosse honors included: team MVP, Academic All-American, NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Player, first-team all-league, selected for the U.S. Lacrosse Senior All-Star game for Rochester … during 2014, earned: Academic All-American, Daily Messenger All-Star and first-team all-league … a N.Y. Scholar athlete in both 2014 and 2015 … finished prep career with 50 goals and 36 assists, while lettering all four years … a two-year varsity starter on the soccer team.
Sophia Sgroi
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Winchester, Mass.

Coach Wayne: "Sophia is the complete package. She's strong, aggressive, fast and will shock you on attack when you least expect it.

Athletic & Academic Honors: Named Academic All-American in 2015 … helped lead Mountain Lakes to the 2014 group I state championship title … 2013 & 2014 Morris County Champs … member of the 2014 Stars and Stripes Conference Championship title … 2013 group I state championship finalists.
Annie Beresheim

Coach Wayne: "Annie has been playing lacrosse since she was little and has a true understanding of the game. She excels with her team defense and ability to transition the ball up the field."

State Class B Championship team in 2014 ... a Scholar Athlete in 2014 and 2015 ... also lettered in field hockey ... part of the 2014 Nassau County Class B Championship field hockey team ... given the Exceptional Senior award in 2014 ...
