JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Erin Osment advanced to the NCAA final round after placing 11th in the 10,000-meter event, Thursday night at the NCAA First Round East Region hosted by the University of Northern Florida.
Osment is the first Wildcat to advance to Euguene, Ore., since high jumper Kristen Meister competed at the 2007 NCAA Track & Field Championships.
Seeded 28th out of 48 runners, Osment ran a gutsy race to finish 11th. The Atlanta, Ga., native's time of 34:27.86 was not only a career-best, but it also set a new Davidson record. Osment has now set and broke her program record in the 10,000 three times this season. Following the conclusion of the race, Osment conveyed her excitement about her performance, "I'm amazed and so happy to have had such a great race! I couldn't be happier to get the opportunity to run again and go to nationals. I am so proud to do it for all my teammates in that Davidson uniform!"
"We are so proud of Erin, who has continued to push herself to new heights," said Director of Track and Field, Jen Straub. "To qualify for the NCAAs is extraordinary and it is a testament to her work ethic and passion. I can't wait to see her compete at the highest level."
Osment will conclude her four-year stint as a Wildcat with a trip to the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. The 10,000-meter event is set for Thursday, June 11.
