DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the first time in her career, Erin Osment will head to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the NCAA East Region first round in the 10,000-meter event, May 28-30. Osment is slated to run Thursday at 9 p.m.
Hailing from Atlanta, Ga., Osment saved the best for last as the senior rewrote the record book during her final campaign.
In Davidson's inaugural appearance at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship, Osment was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer after earning two individual titles, including a conference crown in the 10,000-meter.
Osment battled to the top of the podium in the lengthy race with a time of 34:36.74, to set a new program record and qualify for a chance to compete in Jacksonville.
The senior distance runner now holds the school record in the indoor 3K and 5K and the outdoor 3K, 5K and 10K.
Osment is seeded 28th out of 48 in the east region. The top-12 runners from each regional will compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 10-13 in Eugene, Oregon.
Osment is the second NCAA qualifier for the Wildcats in the past two seasons. Last year, teammate Sarah Paddon competed in Jacksonville, Fla., in the 1,500-meter event.
"I'm so proud of all that Erin has accomplished this season," said Director of Track and Field, Jen Straub. "Advancing to this meet is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She's having a great year and I'm excited to see her compete in Jacksonville".
