
Davidson Preps For Atlantic 10 Championship

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Davidson men's track and field team will compete at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, held at George Mason Stadium.
Running events will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Field events will start at 10:30 a.m. both days.
About The Wildcats
After joining the A-10 in July 2014, Davidson will compete in its first-ever Outdoor Conference Championship. The Wildcats are looking to place and score in several events across the board. Davidson is ranked among the conference's top-15 in several events.
Last Time Out
The Davidson men's track and field team sent a small contingent of athletes to two meets April 17-19.
At the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University, Whitner Chase and Daniel Samet earned top-15 finishes in the lengthy 10,000-meter event. Chase clocked a 30:57.44 to take ninth, while Samet posted a time of 31.13.13 to finish 11th overall. Walker Mogen also competed in the 5,000-meter event and crossed 12th with a time of 14:20.84.
At the Charlotte Invite, Davidson had four student-athletes finish in the top-five of the 1,500 meter run. Ryan Phillips (3:55.28), Ian Robertson (3:55.43), Ramsay Ritchie (3:56.70) and Sal del Giudice (3:57.42) all placed.
Jacob Hostetler registered two top-10 finishes in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. The freshman crossed in 11.09 to finish 10th in the 100 before turning in a 21.98 in the 200 to take seventh. Charles Rappe placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.33) and 10th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.34).
Coming Out Party
In its first ever Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championship appearance, Davidson turned in strong performances across the board to place fifth out of nine teams.
Highlighting Davidson's success was Patrick Rollo. The junior claimed the individual title in the 800-meter event, clocking a 1:53.59. Earlier this season, Rollo broke the school record in the event.
The distance medley relay raced to a fourth-place finish with a time of 10:03.30. The Davidson foursome of Sal del Giudie, Jacob Hostetler, Ramsay Ritchie and Walker Mogen shattered the previous school record of 10:10.08 set in 2013.
In the 3,000-meter event, Davidson showcased its depth. Walker Mogen (8:28.88) and Whitner Chase (8:31.26) placed third and fourth respectively, while Henry Falotico placed ninth (8:37.87).
Charles Rappe (8.63) earned a sixth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles finals.
In the field events, Xzavier Killings and Jordan Marshall led the way. Killings posted a jump of 22' 2¼" (6.76 meters), to tie the current school record and finished fourth overall. Marshall, competing in his first-ever Heptathlon, placed eighth after a grueling two days of competition in which he set several personal bests and scored 4,301 points, a new school record.
In the Rankings
Davidson is ranked among the conference's top-15 in several events as the Wildcats will look to place and score in those events.
Patrick Rollo, the 2015 indoor conference champion, currently sits fifth in the 800-meter event. In the 1,500-meter event, Ryan Phillips (3:55.28), Sal del Giudice (3:55.32) and Ian Robertson (3:55.43) rank 13th-15th, respectively. Walker Mogen sits in third among the conference elite in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:20.84.
Senior Whitner Chase ranks second in the lengthy 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:11.84. Chase sits behind George Mason's Michael Conway, who owns a time of 29:84.37 in the event. Chase (14:50.43) is also ranked 14th in the 5,000-meter event. Teammate Daniel Samet isn't far behind Chase, as the junior clocked a 30:23.12 to rank third among the conference in the 10,000.
Charles Rappe ranks sixth in the 400 hurdles (54.33) and seventh in the 110 hurdles (15.19). Aaron Forburger is eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:31.28.
On the field, Davidson is also ranked among the conference bests. Xzavier Killing is ninth in the high jump after posting a jump of 22'8.5" (6.92 meters), Chris Powell sits at 15th in the triple jump with a jump of 42'11" (13.08 meters) and Jonathan Campbell is 13th in the javelin with a toss of 161'11" (48.35 meters).
