HARMONY, Fla. – Competing in its first-ever Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship, Davidson finished 3rd out of 11 teams, while junior David Sargent paced the Wildcats placing tied for fifth individually.
For his outstanding play, Sargent joined Todd Eckstein on the all-conference team, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
The three-day/54-hole event was played on the Par 72, 7,106-yard Harmony Golf Preserve layout.
Davidson (284-291-294=869), which entered the final round just three back of VCU (286-286-282=854), carded a 294 Sunday to finish 15 strokes behind the Rams and two back of runner-up Richmond (294-286-287=867).
The team title was the second straight for VCU, while the Rams' Adam Bell (66-68-68=202/-14) claimed individual medalist by seven shots.
In addition to posting his lowest career finish, Sargent (72-71-72=215/-1) fired three straight rounds of par or better to join just seven other competitors under par.
Playing in his final collegiate tournament, Eckstein (71-74-73=218/+2) placed tied for 13th along with teammate Spencer Papciak (69-74-75=218/+2).
Rounding out Davidson's starting five were Ralph Blasey (72-72-76=220) and Andy Simmons (75-76-74=225), who finished tied for T-18th and T-34th, respectively.
The Wildcats concluded their 2014-15 season with a pair of Top-5 finishes and four Top-10s.
